Locations and Prices

There are 84[Note 5] Benches across Pharloom, including temporary Benches like Shakra's. Hornet can purchase a set of
Bench Pins from Shakra for
60, which marks the locations of all discovered Benches on any acquired Maps.
Paid Benches
Many Benches require Rosaries to use.[1] Bell Benches outside of Bellshrines are permanently unlocked after a one-time fee, while the Toll Benches in Underworks charge a toll for every visit. If a Bench has a toll that has not been paid, or is unusable due to a trap, its
Bench Pin is greyed out.

Bellshrines
There are six Bellshrines scattered across Pharloom. When activated by hitting a lever on the floor, a large mechanism swings the bell, ringing it four times before unlocking a permanent Bench. Activating the first five Bellshrines is necessary to complete the OPEN: Grand Gate objective and fight the Last Judge, as an entry point to Act 2.
The first five Bellshrines are found in The Marrow, Deep Docks, Greymoor, Bellhart, Shellwood; the sixth is at Songclave, called the "First Shrine", where it is used to summon Pilgrims.

Trivia
- Some Benches in Pharloom are primed with a trap, or require additional steps to be made functional:
- A Bench in northern Hunter's March has a pressure plate beneath it, activating a spike trap when Hornet sits on it. The trap can be deactivated by striking a hidden lever to the left, allowing the Bench to function normally.[2]
- A Bench in western Sinner's Road jams and fails to emerge fully after the Rosary toll is paid. It must be repaired by destroying the vines jamming the mechanism in a hidden room to the left.[3]
- A Bench in northern Bilewater collapses into a pit of muckmaggot-infested water when Hornet sits on it. This Bench cannot be made functional, and is no longer marked on the Map after being broken.
- The tune that is played by the bells when activating a Bellshrine is the Dies irae melody, used extensively throughout the game's soundtrack.
- The Bellshrine in Bellhart is the largest of all the Bellshrines, and is the only one with the bell set in a background layer, where Hornet is unable to hit it.
- Without skips, it is impossible to reach the OPEN: Grand Gate objective without having rung any Bellshrines; even without the Needolin, The Marrow Bellshrine is still required to be rung in order to access Swift Step, which is otherwise required to progress.
- While sitting at a bench, time does not pass for such purposes as the Crawbell, or Styx.
- In early pre-release footage of Hollow Knight: Silksong, bells in the Bellshrines would have a rune appear on them while ringing.[4] This is very likely connected to the cut Strung to Serve ending.
- The paid bench in southwest Mount Fay produces a unique sound when its bells are rung, resembling sleigh bells.

History
- 1.0.28497 (Patch 1): Slight reduction in some Bench prices:
- Shellwood, Blasted Steps (bellway), Sinner's Road: 60 to 40.
- Mount Fay, Bilewater, Putrified Ducts: 90 to 60.
- Blasted Steps (entry): 80 to 60.
Notes
- ↑ Red Tools which don't require Shell Shards:
- Rosary Cannon (uses Rosaries)
- Flea Brew (uses
reserve) - Plasmium Phial (uses
reserve) - Needle Phial (must be used on enemies)
10 to repair a broken bottle.
- ↑ Only affects Fractured Mask, Reserve Bind and Wreath of Purity.
- ↑ Can only occur after Hornet:
- Defeats the first Skull Tyrant in the Marrow
- Reaches either Blasted Steps, Sinner's Road or the Citadel, then rests at a Bench outside of Bone Bottom and the Marrow
- Finally rests on the Bench in Bone Bottom
- ↑ Can only occur after Hornet:
- Hits the lever inside the house on Craw Lake
- Completes the SEEK: Awaiting the End objective
- Finally rests on a Bench in Bellhart, Bilewater, Far Fields, Shellwood, Sinner's Road or Wisp Thicket
- ↑ Special considerations:
- The double/triple Toll Benches in Underworks are counted as one Bench per room, as only one map marker appears for each.
- The rotten Bell Bench in Bilewater is not counted, as the Bench is not functional.
- On the map below, the two Benches at the Marrow's Flea Caravan and Survivor's Camp overlap due to sharing the same spot in different Acts.
