Lavalug

What seems at first a purely defensive mechanism may also be necessary to rid this creature of excess heat.

Lavalugs are enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are small molluscs that spray burning fluid in self-defense.
Behaviour and Tactics
Lavalugs cling to surfaces – often isolated platforms – and slowly crawl along them. When approached or attacked, they stop in place and release a spray of burning orange fluid that travels in an arc and deals ![]()
. On death, they will stay in place and shake for a second before bursting. This deals no extra damage; the only effect of this animation is the lingering contact damage hitbox, though it disappears once they burst.
The burning spray is affected by gravity and has a very long range, especially when the Lavalugs are on the undersides of platforms (since the spray falls further before dissipating). While easy to deal with alone, they can be extremely dangerous in close quarters or when other enemies are attacking as well. Lavalugs respawn whenever Hornet leaves and reenters the room, so avoiding them may be preferable to killing them, due to their slow and predictable movement.
Since Lavalugs tend to be found on thin platforms, it is possible to attack them through the platforms with Needle attacks to dispatch them more safely.
Act 3
Black-threaded Lavalugs have their health doubled. They gain one of the following attacks:
- Void Blades: The enemy explodes into a circle of blades.
- Void Tendrils: The enemy whips Void tendrils in Hornet's direction.
- Void Projectiles: The enemy launches 3 slightly arcing void projectiles in Hornet's direction.
