Mawleks
Mawleks are venom-spitting predatory beasts with many teeth found in Hallownest. They are primarily native to the Ancient Basin, but many have been found in the Forgotten Crossroads, leading to speculation that they migrate closer to the surface in order to breed. Mawleks are suspected to be a distant relative of the Goam, perhaps sharing an ancient ancestor.[1] Like most of the other wildlife of Hallownest, many Mawleks succumbed to the Infection.
Brooding Mawlek
The Brooding Mawlek is a ferocious but extremely social variety of Mawlek, that becomes aggressive if not able to mingle with others of its kind. One could be found in the Forgotten Crossroads amongst the remains of others of its kind, calling out for a companionship.[2][1] At least one other Brooding Mawlek was used in a combat trial by the Colosseum of Fools.
In contrast with other varieties, these Mawleks have ten legs and two additional limbs used for swiping at enemies.
Lesser Mawlek
Lesser Mawleks are six-legged fast-moving mawleks that attack their foes with their many teeth, using their sharp foreclaw, or by spitting acid.[3][4] Many can be found in the Ancient Basin, while others can be found captive in the Colosseum of Fools.
Mawlurk
Mawlurks are overgrown spiked Mawleks who lost their legs and ability to move, and as such are limited to using their acidic spit to dissolve prey. They can be found the Ancient Basin.[3][5]
