Mites or mite-beasts are verminous pests with sharp fangs found in vast numbers in Pharloom.[1][2][3] They are found primarily within the dark corners of Greymoor,[1] but can also be found in the Sinner's Road.

Similar pests to mites could be found in Hallownest, where they would gnaw at unguarded food supplies.[4] Mite as a term has been used to refer to other small or scuttling bugs, such as Drapemites,[5][6] Miremites, Shardmites, and Tarmites.[7] Though these appear to share little in common with the mites of Greymoor.

Mite

The most common variety of Mites are simple pests who attack with their sharp fangs.[1] They pose little threat individually, but can become threatening in numbers.[2]

Mitemother

Mitemothers are aged female mites that have grown larger and stronger than most of their kin.[8] They possess poor eyesight but retain a keen sense of smell. They fiercely attack foes by throwing their bulk at foreign scents.[9] They produce many offspring, and have the duty of raising them.[10]

Fluttermite

Fluttermites are a less common form of mite capable of flight. When agitated they fly at foes and attack with their sharp fangs.[3] Hornet remarked on their similarity to pest creatures she would hunt in her youth in Hallownest.[4]

Moorwing

The Moorwing was a winged mite-beast of unusually large size. It was bred to be so large by the bugs of Citadel, who used it to catch Dreg workers in Greymoor who tried to flee their tasks.[11] The creature would develop a hatred for its captors, and a desire for freedom.[12] After the death of its wranglers, the Moorwing stalked stalked the towers of Greymoor, feasting on passing pilgrims and tenders alike.[13]

After its slaying by Hornet, the creature's remains would be gathered by the travelling Flea Caravaneers, later to be cooked at their festival.
