Mod:Ancient Aspid/Ancient Aspid (boss)
- For the mod adding this boss, see Mod:Ancient Aspid.
Perhaps the ancestor of the Aspid species, the Ancient Aspid embodies unparalleled power and lethality. Yet, its most remarkable legacy persists through its unbroken lineage to this very age. If the essence of existence is where simple survival reigns supreme, perhaps most of us are doomed from the start. |
Ancient Aspid is the titular boss of the Ancient Aspid Mod.
Behaviour and Tactics
The Ancient Aspid has three distinct move sets, which are used alternatingly during different phases: Tactical Mode, Offensive Mode, and Defensive Mode. It also have a set of moves used when too close or far to the Knight, referred to as Passive Mode.
Tactical Mode
The Ancient Aspid flies around and follows the player. This mode and its attacks are used during Phase 1, Climb 1, and Phase 3.
- Bomb: The Ancient Aspid spits out a particle-leaking projectile which explodes on contact with the ground.
- Pentashot: The Ancient Aspid spits out five blobs of venom in a pattern similar to the Grimmkin Master.
- Triple-Triple Shot: The Ancient Aspid spits three blobs of venom like a Primal Aspid, three times, for a total of 9 projectiles.
- Boomerang: The Ancient Aspid fires out three Mantis Lord Boomerangs (see Mantis Lords § Behaviour and Tactics.)[Missing information]
- Sweep Laser: The Ancient Aspid fires a laser that sweeps the arena. It is blocked by terrain and platforms.
- Vomit Shot: The Ancient Aspid spits out several[Missing information] blobs of venom that linger on the ground for a couple of seconds, damaging on contact. The Ancient Aspid only uses this attack starting from the first climb.
- Laser Rapid Fire: The Ancient Aspid fires out a sequence of X[Missing information] lasers aimed at the Knight, followed by a set of five lasers at once spread out across the arena, which attempts to track the Knight. The Ancient Aspid only uses this attack in he third phase.
Offensive Mode
The Ancient Aspid remains stationary above the center of the screen, and the camera locks. This mode and its attacks are used during Phase 2 and Phase 3.
- Bomb: See Tactical Mode
- Pentashot: See Tactical Mode
- Triple-Triple Shot: See Tactical Mode
- Sweep Laser: See Tactical Mode
- Multi Sweep Laser: The Ancient Aspid spits lingering blobs of venom spaced out on the ground; it then fires a laser that sweeps the arena back and forth, attempting to hit the Knight.
- Multi Laser Burst: The Ancient Aspid fires out five lasers spread across the area, with the central one aimed at the Knight and roughly double the width of the others. This is then repeated 5[Missing information] times. The lasers are telegraphed by a weak beam aimed at the Knight.
- Multi Laser Rapid Fire: The Ancient Aspid fires out a rapid sequence of lasers attempting to predict the Knight's position.[Missing information]
- Random Bullet Hell: The Ancient Aspid fires out many small spit globs randomly.
- Radial Bullet Hell: The Ancient Aspid fires out many small spit globs in an orderly back-and-forth fashion repeatedly.
Defensive Mode
The Ancient Aspid lands on the ground with one of the three Landing attacks - Basic Landing, Explosive Landing, and Vomit Landing - and attacks from there. This mode and its attacks are used during Phase 3.
- Basic Landing: The Ancient Aspid swoops down to the ground. The Ancient Aspid either targets the Knight or goes directly downwards, determined randomly.
- Explosive Landing: The Ancient Aspid spits out several bombs, and lunges towards where they will land, resulting in a massive explosion.
- Vomit Landing: The Ancient Aspid spits out an enormous glob of vomit and then lunges towards where it will land, resulting in a splattering of vomit globs everywhere.[Missing information]
If, after the landing, the Ancient Aspid is facing the Knight, it fires out a Ground Laser. Then, the Ancient Aspid performs two Jumps, and if it ends up facing the Knight, it performs a Ground Vomit attack. Finally, it Jumps three more times before changing mode.
- Ground Laser: [Missing information]
- Jump: The Ancient Aspid violently leaps up and lands elsewhere nearby in the arena.
- Ground Vomit: The Ancient Aspid fires forward a couple of lingering vomit globs.
Passive Mode
This is not an explicit mode like the other three. The following attacks are used regardless of the Ancient Aspid's phase or mode.
- Claw Attack: If the Knight is too close to the Ancient Aspid, the boss attacks it with a swipe of its claws near the body.
- Far Away Laser: If the Knight is too far away from the Ancient Aspid, the boss fires a laser that sweeps the arena. It is telegraphed by a weak beam aimed at the Knight. It can pass through terrain and platforms.
Phase Breakdown
Phase 1
During this phase, the Ancient Aspid is in Tactical Mode and uses that mode's attacks, excluding Vomit Shot and Laser Rapid Fire. When the Ancient Aspid's health is lowered to 2320, or once the Knight reaches a height a bit above the third platform, it moves from Phase 1 to Climb 1.
Climb 1
During the climb from Phase 1 to Phase 2, the Ancient Aspid is in Tactical Mode and uses that mode's attacks, excluding Laser Rapid Fire. If the Knight moves too far away from the Ancient Aspid (e.g. back down to the Phase 1 arena) the boss begins firing the Far Away Laser until the Knight is back in range. When the Ancient Aspid's health is lowered to 2204, or once the Knight reaches a height just under the arena of Phase 2, it moves from Climb 1 to Phase 2.
Phase 2
During this phase, the Ancient Aspid is in Offensive Mode and uses that mode's attacks. If the Knight escapes the arena and does not proceed forward, instead retreating back, the Ancient Aspid begins firing the Far Away Laser until the Knight moves back into the arena or begin Climb 2. When the Ancient Aspid's health is lowered to 1450, or once the Knight climbs a couple of platforms out of the arena of Phase 2, it moves from Phase 2 to Climb 2.
Climb 2
During the climb from Phase 2 to Phase 3, the Ancient Aspid solely utilises the Far Away Laser. When the Knight enters the Phase 3 arena, the Ancient Aspid moves to Phase 3.
Phase 3
During this phase, the Ancient Aspid uses all three modes of attack and alternates between them.
- Tactical Mode lasts for 6 seconds before the boss attempts a phase switch.
- Offensive Mode lasts for 10 seconds before the boss attempts a phase switch.
- Defensive Mode lasts for the duration of the attack sequence and the Ancient Aspid then switches into Tactical Mode.
