Muckroach

A revolting creature. My shell itches at their presence. In the pens where their numbers grow vast, I am forever on edge.
Muckroaches are enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are crawling pack bugs, once bred in cages to feed the residents of Greymoor.[1]
Behaviour and Tactics
Muckroaches sleep motionless until disturbed, after which they chase Hornet relentlessly. They can run quickly, jump short distances, and climb walls to reach her. Muckroaches have 3 different moves they can choose from:
- Maul: Tenses up before leaping at Hornet at a variable angle, often leaping again if she isn't yet behind it. If she is caught by the attack, it grabs her and drags her to the ground before mauling her for
+ of successive damage. The Muckroach chews briefly after a successful attack. It can use this move to get up elevated surfaces to continue pursuing Hornet. - Backpedal: Scurries backwards a set distance, often used after missing a Maul attack.
- Bark: Tilts its head back and bites at nothing. Seems to be randomly chosen, often after using Backpedal. Great as an opening to counterattack and get damage in.
Because of their high speed and evasive movements, Muckroaches are difficult to hit. The simplest way is to jump over their leaps and attack from above. Crests with high attack knockback can also repel their lunge. Since they spawn motionless in predetermined locations, careful routing can be used to avoid waking them in most rooms, allowing for an easy escape. Their loud snoring is an easy way to tell when to exercise extra caution in a new room.
Some Muckroaches are trapped inside cages and cannot escape. While they are harmless and cannot be attacked with the Needle, their snarling and thrashing alerts any other Muckroaches nearby. In some specific cases, a Muckroach can be aware of other nearby sleeping Muckroaches who can reach Hornet and will seek them instead of directly engaging in combat. When this happens, the sleeping Muckroaches will then be activated and attack Hornet in packs. Be aware that Muckroaches also sleep in cages that are open or broken, which can give the illusion of safety.

Muckroaches can be found exclusively in Sinner's Road, mainly in the more horizontal rooms.
