Nyleth

Her presence would once have maintained the wood's fragile order, allowing the safe passage of bugs across its branches.

Nyleth is a main boss in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Found within a memory inside the hidden shrine in the Grand Gate, her defeats grants the Pollen Heart, which is one of the four Old Hearts that can be used for the SEEK: The Old Hearts Objective; only three are required.
Background
Nyleth was the heart of Shellwood, which was created due to her power to give life to the vegetation in the area.[2] At one point, the Citadel made a reluctant deal with her, sending servants as a sign of respect and building a shrine with a statue in her likeness.[3] Shrine Guardian Seth was then given the role of defending the shrine for eternity.[4]
In-game Events
The statue of Nyleth can be found in a hidden shrine in the Grand Gate. During the The Old Hearts wish, Hornet can play the Elegy of the Deep at the shrine of Nyleth and enter her memory, where Hornet can fight her when she was still alive. Defeating her grants Hornet the Pollen Heart.
As with all Elegy of the Deep memories, if Hornet dies in the fight, she reappears outside Nyleth's fountain without losing her Rosaries and without creating a Cocoon, with all Tool uses refilled at no cost. Dying also does not end
Steel Soul mode.
Behaviour and Tactics
When Nyleth is first approached by Hornet, she screams, destroying the floor and dropping Hornet into the arena. Nyleth then descends the left wall and begins the fight.
Phase 1
In Phase 1, Hornet fights on a platform surrounded by small pits of thorns to either side. For the duration of the fight, Nyleth is grappled to the walls, and she will dash across the arena to change the wall she clings to regularly. While she clings to a wall, it becomes completely covered in thorny vines. Making contact with any of the thorns deals
and transports Hornet back to the platform.
During this phase, Nyleth sticks to the bottom corner of the wall and has the following attacks:
- Wall Leap: Nyleth crouches in her petals and the thorny vines disappear from her wall. After a moment, she leaps across the entire room horizontally, landing on the opposite wall. The vines then reappear on the wall she lands on.
- Petal Blades: Nyleth displays a brief white light telegraph and tucks her head in before quickly slashing up and down with it, making large sweeps that cover the area above and below her.
- Pollen Barrage: Nyleth opens her mouth before spewing 4 waves of evenly spaced pollen projectiles, switching between 3 and 4 projectiles with each wave. The projectiles are fired in alternating patterns and also slightly arc as they travel. These projectiles can be struck by the Needle; however, it only slightly pushes the pollen back. If Hornet is too close, Nyleth cannot perform this attack and uses Petal Blades instead.
- Pollen Screech: Nyleth screeches and creates a large yellow circle of pollen that covers roughly three quarters of the room, including the entire platform. After a moment, the pollen explodes, dealing damage if Hornet is caught in the circle. Nyleth only performs this attack if Hornet is in range of the circle.
- Thorn Balls: Nyleth summons 3 evenly spaced spiked balls which shoot up from the ground below the platform, with the position of each ball telegraphed by a pillar of rumbling smoke. Each ball reaches a random set height before then falling back down. The spiked balls can be hit into Nyleth, dealing 15 damage to her, or into another spiked ball, breaking both.

Phase 2
After reaching 875 HP Nyleth stops to scream, which destroys the entire floor, including the platform, and roughly doubles the height of the arena. The bottom of the arena is now completely covered in thorns, and Hornet must cling to a wall to avoid damage.
Nyleth is now able to slither randomly up and down the wall in-between attacks. She also modifies 2 attacks:
- Petal Blades: Nyleth no longer performs this attack normally; she only uses it if Hornet is too close and prevents Nyleth from performing a Pollen Barrage.
- Thorn Balls: Shortly after the first 3 spiked balls are launched, 2 additional spiked balls are shot out in the gaps of the first set.
If Hornet falls into the thorny vines on the floor or walls in this phase, she is transported to a small platform at the bottom of the arena, which shakes before disappearing after a few seconds.

Notes and Strategies:
- Clawline provides important utility, allowing Hornet to close the distance to Nyleth and escape attacks such as the Pollen Screech.
- Ascendant's Grip is perfect for this boss as it allows Hornet to remain completely still while holding onto the wall. This makes it easier to navigate some of her attacks like Pollen Barrage, Pollen Screech, and Thorn Balls, and throw Tools at Nyleth more accurately.
- Cross Stitch can also be used in combination with Needle bounces, as every attack has a clear telegraph and can be parried. However, this poses significant risk, as failing the timing of Cross Stitch will cause Hornet to take damage from the attack and possibly fall into the thorns below. The high amount of Silk needed to make this strategy viable may also make it more difficult to cast Cross Stitch and Bind. For this, Weavelight, Druid's Eyes, and Reserve Bind may come in handy.
- The Spear form of Voltvessels is particularly powerful in this fight since Nyleth clings to walls and cannot avoid taking the full brunt of the Tool without using Wall Leap. Cogfly, Conchcutter, Pimpillo, and Silkshot are other useful options.
