– Relic Seeker Scrounge

Relic Seeker Scrounge is a Merchant in Hollow Knight: Silksong. She buys relics in her shop in Bellhart in exchange for Rosaries.

Background

Scrounge is a relic seeker, a hobby that involves collecting and translating various relics.

In-game Events

Relic Seeker Scrounge is one of the residents of Bellhart. When Hornet first arrives in Bellhart, Scrounge's bellhome is found closed. After Widow is defeated and the residents are freed from the silk threads, Scrounge returns to her work.

Hornet can sell different types of relics to Scrounge, who translates them. After selling the relics, their translations can be viewed by speaking to Scrounge, or in the Bellhome after purchasing the Desk.

Singed parchment containing a pilgrim's scrawl.

"My dear companions, all are gone now, devoured, scorched, fallen to exhaustion, or worse, seduced by the Haunting."

Faded parchment containing the last words of a lost pilgrim.

"-ter I die here in the damp dark than join those poor sods, trapped to stumble, aimless and empty, until their limbs fall to dust."

Filthy rag, marked with the scrawl of an Underworker.

"So much suffering. Are we truly chosen, or have we sinned unknowing, and now are punished for it?"

Crumpled parchment containing the prayer of a Burning Bug.

"Hail to your heat! O glorious flame. You who builds and breaks us. Sear our shells. Char them black. That we may rise to join you, wreathed in bright and blazing joy."

Carving of Camora, Weaver of healing. A prayer is etched upon it.

"Weaver, heal my sons, their fearful hearts, their limbs that shake at the climb to come. We pray, gift but a glimmer of your strength, that when we stand before your divinity, you see bugs shed free of fear."

Carving of Keelal, Weaver of the path. A prayer is etched upon it.

"Blessed Weaver, lady of grace, you who see our sin, our frail shells, our voices weak, and still offer your protection. How great your mind to care so much for ones so lowly."

Carving of Atla, Weaver of time. A prayer is etched upon it.

"By grace of your example, and our history held full in mind, our song is yours, as your name is sacred. Weaver Atla, may you be praised eternal."

Decree of the Citadel, dirty and worn.

"Full Chamber to the kingdom of the White Wyrm. Claim the Weaver, in half part. Last of their line. Sensed strong with Silk.

Resistance anticipated. Quell with rune cage."

Surgeon's orders.

"Devout has succumbed during Silk suture. Refuses to revive. Sin committed. Permit no rites.

Husk marked for cremation. Retrieve dregs."

Last edict of the Conductors.

"And lo, is eternity sustained. By Architect's claw, we welcome that final form, of dial and rotor, and soul gladly given.

The perfect, unfaltering voice."

Tattered decree of the Citadel.

"Bug of voice grown hoarse or shell fallen frail, you have been selected for duty most sacred.

Become our light, our guide in darkness, that others worthy may climb to join the holy song."

Words of a Weaver from the nest beneath Bone Bottom.

"Hide her deep, the despised child, our shame shown in shell of iron. She is a wish cast vain, divinity mimicked in form too frail."

Plea of a Weaver from the furthest edge of Pharloom.

"Flee, sisters. Flee until your strength exhausts, so far you may escape at last her silken sight.

To start anew, to sustain, free of web and service eternal."

Last words of the Weavers.

"Sisters, spiders, the burden is passed. These simple bugs shall bear it full. Never to cease. Never to silence.

We shall die, and wait, and pray, that one may come of silken strength enough to weave us free."

Dialogue

General
First Encounter (if Widow is defeated before Hornet has ever visited Bellhart, or if Hornet has talked to Lace in the Choral Chambers) What? What, what? Who is it? What've you got? What do you want?

Hornet: I am just a traveller. May I ask, though, what work occupies you here?
What occupies me, you ask? The past! The voices of ages gone by, they speak to me through what is left behind.
Those outside, those dreary pilgrims and bell-adorned dullards... none of them have my keen sense, my respect for the past!
You seem able, though. Sneaky, too. If you find any fine old stuff, anything with a history to it, bring it here. I'll take it.

If Hornet has a relic:
But what's this?! I smell something on you right now! You have a relic for me!

First Encounter (if Widow is defeated after Hornet has visited Bellhart, and Hornet hasn't talked to Lace in the Choral Chambers) What? What, what? Who is it? What've you got? What do you want?

Hornet: I am just a traveller, one hoping you were not too badly affected by the cursed snare set upon this town.
Pah! What binds them outside means nothing to me. None of them have my keen sense, my respect for the past!
You seem able, though. Sneaky, too. If you find any fine old stuff, anything with a history to it, bring it here. I'll take it.

If Hornet has a relic:
But what's this?! I smell something on you right now! You have a relic for me!

Speaking while having a relic Ahh... I smell something on you. Heavy with the past, you are. You have a relic for me, don't you?
Not giving the relic over What? You refuse to pass it on? What good do you think it'll do you?!
Giving the relic over Yes... This fits my collection well. Look, then! Look at what I have!
After giving first relic More, then! Bring me more relics of the past! Records, seals, idols! Let's gather up the history of the world and hoard it all here, nice and safe!

Hornet: If I happen upon more curiosities of this kingdom's past, I may visit again. Until that time, keep yourself safe.

After giving the relic on subsequent conversation More, then! Bring me more relics of the past! Records, seals, idols! Let's gather up the history of the world and hoard it all here, nice and safe!
Speaking when having no relics and having not given Scrounge a relic before It's my calling it is, to gather the relics of the past. If you find any fine old stuff, anything with a history to it, bring it here. I'll take it.
Speaking when having no relics and having given Scrounge a relic before It's my calling it is, to gather the relics of the past. Look at my collection, if you fancy! Look, look!
After seeing Scrounge's collection More, then! Bring me more relics of the past! Records, seals, idols! Let's gather up the history of the world and hoard it all here, nice and safe!
When having a Psalm Cylinder in the inventory Ah! That relic you possess! A cylinder of the Citadel's sacred vault! That there is a mighty find. You will give it, yes?

Hornet: I will not, seeker. To extract what knowledge it holds, this cylinder requires a listening device, one you do not possess.
Hornet: If it were passed, whatever secrets it contains would remain forever hidden from us both.
Pah... If it will not speak to me, I do not want it! Don't trouble me until you have something worth my taking!

Completing the collection Yes... yes. This is a mighty collection indeed!

So many relics safely piled up in there, nice and safe! I've done so well to gather it all up!
Hornet: If your collection pleases you, some acknowledgement of my own contribution to its growth is not undue.
Pah! Is it gratitude you seek?
I will allow you to keep viewing my collection. That is gratitude enough for what little you've given me!

Exhausted dialogue after seeing Scrounge's completed collection A mighty collection of the past, is it not? If only I could hoard all of history here with me!
Playing the Needolin Whispers of the dead...

Stained by history...
The past's long shadow!
Keep them close...
Keep them safe!
Relics... precious and fragile!

Act 3
First conversation If Hornet hasn't met Scrounge in Act 2:

What? What now? What's all that great racket? What is it?
Hornet: Greetings, ma'am. If you are disturbed by the rending of these lands, I fear some blame is mine to bear.
Pah. I care not for the miseries and struggles of them outside! None of them have my keen sense, my respect for the past!
You seem able, though. Sneaky, too. If you find any fine old stuff, anything with a history to it, bring it here. I'll take it.

If Hornet has met Scrounge in Act 2:
What? What now? What's all that great racket, what is it?
Hornet: Greetings, ma'am. It is only I. If you are disturbed by the rending of these lands, I fear some blame is mine to bear.
Blame, is it? Pah. Those who come after us can apportion blame as they see fit.
For now, my collection is the only thing that matters! I must protect it!

Location
