Silk Soar

The Silk Soar is an Ability that Hornet acquires in Act 3 of Hollow Knight: Silksong. Hornet flings her Needle into the sky on a thread of Silk, then rockets up to where the Needle sticks. It costs 1 strand of Silk per use.
Function
- Hold DOWN + HARPOON to begin charging the Silk Soar. Hornet can cancel the charge early without expending Silk.
- After about a second, release to have Hornet throw her Needle.
- When the Needle hits the nearest ceiling, Hornet shoots up to it.
- Higher ceilings create more of a delay between throw and jump.
- Hornet's flight can be cancelled early by pressing JUMP, ATTACK, HARPOON, or by being attacked.
- The Needle can pass through room transitions, and will bring Hornet through them as long as it eventually hits a ceiling
Damage
- Silk Soar is not very useful for combat purposes, but it does deal damage to enemies.
- When the thrown Needle hits an enemy, it deals the normal damage of the Needle.
- If Hornet subsequently hits an enemy, it deals 5 damage, regardless of the level of the Needle. Hornet will still take contact damage with the enemy if it is not killed.
- Both hitting the enemy with the Needle and making contact with the enemy give Silk, resulting in 1 extra silk than was started with before the Silk Soar if both hits land.
- Both parts of the damage are affected by enemy damage modifiers.
- Both parts of the damage increase the Focus of the Hunter Crest and are affected by its multiplier. The second hit deals 5, 6, and 8 damage at Focus level 0, 1, and 2 respectively.
- If Hornet takes damage however, this Focus is instantly reset regardless.
- Neither part of the damage is affected by the Beast Crest Bind.
- Neither part of the damage counts as attacking for the purposes of the Beast Crest Bind, unlike the Clawline. However, taking damage by contacting an enemy will count as damage for reducing the duration of the Bind.
- Neither part has its damage increased by the Snitch Pick.
How to Acquire
Silk Soar is one of the last Abilities Hornet acquires, only being obtainable in Act 3. It can be found on her first visit to The Abyss, in a Weaver Burial Spire behind a Needolin door in Weavenest Absolom.

Trivia
- The Abyss and subsequent escape sequence back up to Deep Docks contain several broken or unusable Weaver lifts similar to the one in Weavenest Atla. These indicate where Silk Soar can be used to go up.
- It is possible to travel all the way from the bottom of Moss Grotto up to the top of the Blasted Steps using a single Silk Soar.
