Skarr Scout

Despite their youth, they are impressive opponents. It seems likely their tribe were trained for combat from birth.

Skarr Scouts are enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are young members of the Skarr who sit along the outskirts or join in bands to fight. There is a mottled form of the Skarr Scout who upgrades Hornet's Curveclaw, but remains unnamed.
Behaviour and Tactics
Skarr Scouts often start off resting, and do a short battle cry once Hornet approaches.
Alternatively, some Skarr will be in the middle of using Sickle Throw at nearby Flapping Fertids or Hardbone Elders, attempting to kill them. They will, however, prioritise Hornet over the Flapping Fertids.
Skarr Scouts cannot walk and can only move via their attacks. Skarr Scouts have 5 different moves to dodge and attack Hornet from any distance:
- Jump: Jumps in an arc and tries to land near or on Hornet.
- Backdash: Performs a short dash backwards to gain distance.
- Burrow: Dives into the ground and reappears elsewhere on the platform, as indicated by the dust being kicked up from where they're currently burrowed. If Hornet leaves their platform, they immediately Burrow and don't come back up until Hornet is on their platform again.
- If the Skarr Scout gets pushed off their platform and onto another, they use Burrow to get back up to their original spawning platform.
- Double Slash: If Hornet is close enough, the Skarr Scout performs two short outwards swings that also hit slightly above themselves, moving themselves forward with each swing. This attack has remarkably short foreswing, so caution should be taken when near them.
- Sickle Throw: Throws one of their blades at Hornet, angling it upwards if she's in the air. Frequently used when Hornet is out of range on the platform.
- The Sickle can be struck with the Needle to deflect it and nullify its hitbox.
Skarr Scouts deal
with all their attcks as well as on contact.
Pay attention to its animations to determine how to approach. Their swings can be easily jumped over and punished with a Needle Bounce, but getting close while the thrown attack is being charged may cause their aim to change and hit Hornet.
Skarr Scouts respawn upon re-entering the room.
Act 3
Black-threaded Skarr Scouts have their health tripled. They gain one of the following attacks:
- Void Blades: The enemy explodes into a circle of blades.
- Void Tendrils: The enemy whips Void tendrils in Hornet's direction.
- Void Projectiles: The enemy launches 3 slightly arcing void projectiles in Hornet's direction.
- Void Drops: The enemy launches 3 arcing Void droplets to the left and right. Upon hitting the ground, each droplet then explodes into a smaller version of the Void Blades attack.
