Smokerock Sifter
The Haunting has stolen some important part of these bugs, yet still they attempt their former task. Until, that is, they sense my presence...
Smokerock Sifters are enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are short workers of the Deep Docks tasked to sift smokerock with their cymbals.
Behaviour and Tactics
Smokerock Sifters wander idly, occasionally pausing before resuming walking until Hornet gets in their vicinity, in which case they use one of their three moves:
- Cymbal Bash: Raises their cymbal in front of themself and charges towards Hornet, blocking all Needle attacks and non-piercing Tools from the front. They get pushed back when the cymbal blocks an attack, but continue to charge. The charge only ends once Hornet is behind them or they have been hit back into a wall.
- Cymbal Jump: Leaps into the air to try and land on Hornet, holding their cymbal over their head, blocking all damage from needle bounces. As they fall, they hold the cymbal beneath themself, blocking all damage from Needle attacks angled upwards. Hitting their cymbal as they fall causes them to bounce upwards, and this can be continued to bounce them across the room if Hornet desires.
- Block: Raises their cymbal towards Hornet for 1 second, changing their block angle to be above them if Hornet jumps above them, turning around as well if Hornet gets behind them. Every time they change their blocking stance, the timer is reset, which means they can be trapped in this move by Hornet simply jumping repeatedly. If Hornet strikes the cymbal, they immediately perform one of their other 2 moves as a counter-attack.
Act 3
Black-threaded Smokerock Sifters have their health quadrupled. They gain one of the following attacks:
- Void Blades: The enemy explodes into a circle of blades.
- Void Tendrils: The enemy whips Void tendrils in Hornet's direction.
- Void Projectiles: The enemy launches 3 slightly arcing void projectiles in Hornet's direction.
- Void Drops: The enemy launches 3 arcing Void droplets to the left and right. Upon hitting the ground, each droplet then explodes into a smaller version of the Void Blades attack.
