The Choral Chambers are an area in The Citadel in Hollow Knight: Silksong. The chambers comprise the majority of the Citadel's structure, with golden, silk-lined halls that bridge between the outer sectors of the massive structure. Members of the Choir wander the halls, long taken by the Haunting and leaving those not dead or haunted to survive in the now-deadly Citadel chambers.

Description

The Choral Chambers are the main and largest area of the Citadel. Grand golden adorned halls weave through the Citadel's towering structure, connecting all of the sub-areas. The corridors are lined with gilded trims and elegant silk drapes befitting the religious centre and capital of Pharloom. Once a holy place of song, the Choral Chambers now lie in disrepair, inhabited by the reanimated Choir who have fallen to the Haunting by Grand Mother Silk. The pilgrims here drop the most Rosaries, showing that those in the Choral Chambers and The Citadel in general are very devoted to the religion of Pharloom.

Golden bells hang from platforms in the vertical rooms, which Hornet can needle-bounce. Many platforms in the western part of the halls periodically move in and out of the walls, giving Hornet little time to platform.

To the east, a large rotating hallway can be found. When a lever is struck at either entrance, the contraption rotates and opens up an entrance between the areas. This either connects the Cogwork Core to the Whispering Vaults, or in the other position, allows access to the upper east part of the chambers.

The upper halls, connecting to the High Halls and Memorium, are long grand hallways connecting to the Cogwork Core. These are guarded by the Citadel's most powerful guards, the Grand Reeds, who can fly and lash out with deadly Silk attacks. These guards are meant to deter pilgrims from accessing the Cogwork Core, and by extension, the lift up into the Cradle. If Hornet enters the Cogwork Core, she is faced with the Cogwork Dancers.

Near the center of the structure, Loyal Mergwin can be found, dedicated to serving his master Great Gourmand and providing food for their insatiable appetite. He gives Hornet a Pale Oil in exchange for completing the Great Taste of Pharloom Wish. Another Pale Oil can be found in a room to the west, only accessible via the Whispering Vaults.

Bell puzzles can be found around the Choral Chambers and Citadel. There is one in the Choral Chambers, and solving it requires hitting the bells in the order they play. Solving the puzzles gives Hornet a Cogheart Piece. Three Cogheart Pieces are used to assemble the Cogheart, which can be used to repair the Second Sentinel.

How to Access

The Choral Chambers are first accessed either through the Underworks, through a breakable wall in the Grand Gate or through the lift after Phantom.

Area Features

Sub-area: Grand Bellway

The Grand Bellway consists of a Bellway Station, a Bench, and a Ventrica Station. It is located in the southeast corner of the Choral Chambers. If Hornet accesses the Citadel through the Sinner's Road, she passes through the Exhaust Organ which leads into an alcove that drops her here.

Sub-area: Songclave

Songclave is located at the northeast corner of the Choral Chambers, and becomes active after Hornet rings the bell bench in the First Shrine. Managed by the Caretaker, it serves as a respite for any pilgrims passing through. As more pilgrims populate the area, Jubilana sets up shop as its merchant, Sherma stops by to aid the injured, and Garmond & Zaza also can be found resting here. It also has a Wishwall where Hornet can take on wishes from its residents.

The "First Shrine" Ventrica Station can be found one floor above Songclave.

During Act 3, after the Caretaker leaves to join his family in the Ruined Chapel, Sherma takes leadership, tending to any wounded that have been rescued by the Second Sentinel.
