Cruel physician of Whiteward, responsible for operations and modifications on the Citadel's bugs.

Their procedures with Silk may have prolonged life within the Citadel, but they unknowingly gifted many minds to the monarch.

Surgeons are enemies in Hollow Knight: Silksong. They are small, portly disciples of the Choir, cowled like many other Citadel officials.

Behaviour and Tactics

Surgeons cannot walk and can only reposition via their moves. Surgeons have 3 moves:

• Jump: Performs a slow, floaty jump towards Hornet. The Surgeon can suddenly use Pin Flurry whilst midair during this move.
• Pin Flurry: Briefly extends pins attached to its body by Silk, then lashes out with them in a large semicircle around itself. Combos Hornet for + if she is hit by the pins at any point during the attack.
• Reposition: Sinks into the ground – after a second, a dust cloud indicates where it will reappear, and the Surgeon then shoots its pins upwards and pulls itself out of the ground, either appearing near or beneath Hornet.

Due to their predictable attacks and slow movement, Surgeons can simply be baited into attacking and then quickly counterattacked without much effort.

Location

Surgeons are found exclusively in Whiteward, specifically in a room unlocked during the Balm for the Wounded wish. 3 of them are fought alongside 2 Morticians as part of an enemy gauntlet. After completing the gauntlet and returning, 2 Surgeons can be found in the same room. They respawn upon leaving and re-entering the room, making them one of the rare enemies that drop rosaries but don't require resting at a bench to respawn.

Trivia

• The White Key can be found on a Surgeon's corpse in Songclave, long before any living Surgeon is encountered.
• The nearby Surgeon's Key is found on a Surgeon's corpse that falls out of a ceiling chute.
• The voice of a Surgeon can be heard on the Psalm Cylinder that records the last surgery of Conductor Mizello.
• In the Silksong reveal trailer, Surgeons could be seen wandering rooms in the Choral Chambers. However, in the final release, they have been relegated to appear in a single enemy gauntlet within Whiteward.
