The Abyss is an area accessible during Act 3 of Hollow Knight: Silksong. It is similar to Hallownest's Abyss, themed around the Void and located at the very bottom of Pharloom.

Description

Lake of Void

The Abyss is pitch-black and largely devoid of natural life. The few life forms that appear here are mostly hostile, and the bottom-most reaches of the Abyss are an unending sea of Void Tendrils that lash out at anyone that approaches.

Remnants of the ancient civilisation are also present within this kingdom's Abyss, ranging from old structures to lore tablets.

How to Access

Hornet first accesses the Abyss through the diving bell located at the deepest part of the Deep Docks. The diving bell can be reached in Act 2, but Hornet must first confront the Snail Shamans in the Ruined Chapel during Act 3 before she is able to seek Ballow's help in operating the diving bell.

While the diving bell does get Hornet into the Abyss safely, its poor condition renders it damaged during the descent and Hornet cannot ascend back into Pharloom the same way. Instead, after confirming the location of Lace and Grand Mother Silk in the Abyss, Hornet must then acquire the Silk Soar ability and ascend out of the Abyss with it. Both her entry into and exit from the Abyss in this part of the story are one-way, due to the diving bell's damage and the rising lava flows preventing Hornet from doubling back.

Once Hornet has acquired the Everbloom from Red Memory, Ballow reveals that he has reinforced the diving bell, allowing Hornet to safely descend into and ascend from the Abyss without losing access to Pharloom.

In silence your voice,
In darkness your form,
We higher who see you seeking,
Our shells yearn for your embrace.

Erase our fear,
Eliminate our desire,
To suffer no more,
Void, cleanse us.

Sub-area: Weavenest Absolom

Weavenest Absolom is a sub-area in the lower eastern area of the Abyss, reached by crossing a lake of Void Tendrils and completing a platforming section. The Needolin must be played to open the door to the area.

The Silk Soar ability, which is required in order to complete Act 3, is found at the bottom of the area.

The Farsight can be found in the eastern passage of Weavenest Absolom.

Trivia

  • The Abyss/Void seemingly exists underneath everything else in the world.[1]
  • Playing the Beastling Call anywhere in the Abyss will result in failure, as the Beastlings cannot reach Hornet.
  • The Abyss Silk Soar escape sequence was originally planned to be much shorter.[2]
