Warding Bell

Warding Bell is a Blue ToolBlue Tool in Hollow Knight: Silksong. It negates damage taken while Binding.

Usefulness

Activates when Hornet is attacked during the act of Binding, and deals 9 base damage in a small area surrounding her; the damage scales with Crafting Kit upgrades. Prevents damage but not knockback or bind cancellation when activated by damaging attacks, while the effects of harmless disabling attacks are completely nullified, such as being caught by Barnak tongues and the spit attack from Guardflies, Wardenflies, and the Broodmother.

  • The cancelled Bind will have no healing effect and its Silk cost wasted. However, any Silk that wasn't consumed by the Bind is preserved.
  • The shield lasts for a short period after the Bind finishes healing, allowing Hornet to receive the healing and simultaneously shield herself from any attacks directly after.
  • The Warding Bell's damage is unaffected by damage multipliers, and is only increased by Crafting Kits.
  • Does not activate when using the Architect Crest's Craft Bind.
  • Does not reactivate during the same Bind after nullifying a disabling attack. Successive Binds with the Multibinder are counted as the same Bind.
  • The shield activates with a slight delay when Binding with Silk from Reserve Bind. If attacked during this period, Hornet will take the appropriate damage, no damage burst occurs from the bell, and the Bind is cancelled, but any Silk that wasn't consumed by the Bind is preserved.

How to Acquire

Found on a dead Smelt Shoveller in lower Far Fields, beside the lower entrance to Deep Docks.

Tool Synergies

Claw Mirror
Getting hit while the Bell's effect is active triggers a damaging blast that covers the whole screen.

Claw Mirrors
Same as Claw Mirror but with more damage dealt.

Trivia

  • Most enemies killed by the Warding Bell will become charred and release white particles. This effect is similar to the one used in Hollow Knight when The Knight kills an enemy using spells.
