Marissa is a spirit in Hollow Knight. She was a songstress in the Pleasure House in the City of Tears.

Lore
Marissa was a songstress of some renown in Hallownest's capital.[1] She performed in the Pleasure House for enrapt crowds, with a voice that was described as being able to ease burdens and still troubled minds.[3][4] When the Infection spread across Hallownest, Marissa's audiences eventually stopped coming to her performances.[3]
At some point, Marissa passed away. Her spirit remained on the stage where she used to perform. She continued to sing here even though nobody was left to listen.[5]
In-game events
If the Knight has the Dream Nail, Marissa can be heard singing on her stage in the Pleasure House. She appears on the stage when the Knight approaches it. After explaining her backstory to the Knight, she asks if they would like to listen to her sing.[6]
It is possible for the Knight to sit on the stage to listen to Marissa sing. Even though only the Knight is there to hear her, Marissa enjoys having an audience again.[7]
Like all other spirits, the Dream Nail can be used on her, giving 1 Essence.

- Marissa was first revealed in a Kickstarter update, where she was described as:
- Marissa the Butterfly is the ghost of a famous entertainer and musician in the Hallownest capital. The concept and dialogue for the character were submitted by Marissa Brice. Thanks Marissa![8]
- Marissa's singing is used in the beginning of the soundtrack version of the City of Tears music as well as in the music playing outside in the City of Tears.
