Desolate Dive Descending Dark

Descending Dark is a Spell in Hollow Knight. It is the upgrade to Desolate Dive. Using it strikes the ground with concentrated SOUL and Shadow, breaking floors and damaging enemies.

Function

Press FOCUS/CAST or QUICK CAST while holding DOWN to cause the Knight to slam into the ground, creating a shockwave that spreads further upwards than Desolate Dive, and bursts twice. The dive itself deals 15 damage, the left half of the first burst deals 35 damage, the right half deals 30, and the second burst deals 15 damage on either side, for a total of 60 or 65 damage.

Like Desolate Dive, using Descending Dark makes the Knight invincible for 0.4 seconds and allows breaking of some floors. Using Descending Dark in quick succession cancels the invincibility frames of the spell if it is cast while the previous Spell's invincibility frames have not yet run out.

Modifiers

  • Shaman Stone increases the damage dealt by Descending Dark by 47%.
  • Spell Twister lowers the SOUL cost to cast Descending Dark to 24 SOUL.

How to Acquire

It is found on a snail shaman's corpse in Crystal Peak, within the Crystallised Mound. It is recommended to have the Lumafly Lantern in order to reach this area.

Trivia

  • Gained by absorbing the body of a snail shaman encased in crystal. Dream Nailing this snail gives the line:
"...Free...me..."
  • Descending Dark and Desolate Dive can be used while Dung Defender is underground to force him out and stagger him.
