Misc.

  • Unique new game mode called Silk Soul mode. Unlocked after beating the game. A new mode similar to Steel Soul Mode, but while Steel Soul had very small tweaks and is largely a permadeath mode, Silk Soul is projected to take "a step further" than the previous game-mode and provide an experience that can potentially "last a little longer".[4]

Development

Hollow Knight: Silksong was first planned as additional content to Hollow Knight, as part of a Kickstarter goal to have a second playable character.[6] Eventually, the development became too ambitious for a DLC, so Team Cherry opted for a new game. It was revealed on February 14th, 2019.[7] The game is also planned to incorporate the remaining Kickstarter backer creations such as characters, bosses and areas. On June 12th, 2022, Hollow Knight: Silksong was shown in the Xbox & Bethesda showcase, where it was confirmed to be on Game Pass day 1.[8] It, alongside all other games shown, was confirmed to be releasing in the timeframe of twelve months.[9] On May 9th, 2023, the game was indefinitely delayed.[10] On April 2nd, 2025, Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared in the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct.[11] It was given a release window of 2025.[12]
