Champion from a brighter age. Stood guard at the city until its fall. A statue now stands in his place

“I can still hear your jolly chortle, Hegemol. For such a towering bug, you were so quiet! But your humour was simply unrivalled. After all this time, I never got to see your face... What were you hiding behind that armour, old friend?”

– Ogrim of the Five Knights

Mighty Hegemol is a boss in Pale Court. He is one of the Five Great Knights, guarding the city gates.

Behaviour and Tactics

At the start of the fight. Hegemol appears without a mace. He summons his mace shortly after appearing, slamming it on the ground in front of him. All of Hegemol's attacks, apart from falling debris and small and medium-sized shockwaves, deal two masks of damage. This includes contact damage. Mighty Hegemol uses the following attacks:

  • Debris (passive): After most of Hegemol's attacks, he will cause debris to fall down from the ceiling.
  • Charge: Hegemol groans and holds his mace behind him, after which he runs towards the Knight's former position until he bumps into a wall, after which he performs a slight hop. Hegemol charges one additional time for every phase the Knight has passed. Once the last charge finishes, Hegemol's hop will create two shockwaves that travel across the entire arena.
    • Hegemol always uses this attack at the start of Phase 1.
  • Dig: Hegemol drags his mace along the ground behind him for a short duration, after which he swings his mace, releasing a small shockwave that travels across the entire arena, along with debris which is shot up from the ground, falling back down afterwards.
  • Mace Swing: Hegemol winds up his mace above his head for a short duration, after which he slams the ground, creating a medium-sized shockwave that travels across the entire arena. If the knight is too far from Hegemol while he is still winding up his mace, Hegemol jumps towards the Knight before slamming the ground.
  • Jump: Hegemol jumps towards the Knight, dealing contact damage.
  • Ground Punch: At the start of Phases 2/3, Hegemol jumps to the middle of the arena and throws his mace up in the direction of where the Knight is standing. He then punches the ground eight times on alternating sides, starting on the side the Knight is on. The punches create medium-sized shockwaves that travel across the entire arena. The attack ends when he catches his mace.
  • Ground Slam: Hegemol winds up his mace, after which he slams the ground, creating a large shockwave that spans from the floor to the ceriling of the arena that travels across the entire arena.
    • Hegemol starts using this attack in Phase 2.
  • Debris Slam: Hegemol drags his mace along the ground behind him for a short duration, after which he swings his mace, launching debris into the air. He then jumps and hits the debris, causing it to be fired along the ground in a cone-like shape. Hegemol creates two small shockwaves once he lands that travel across the entire arena.
    • Hegemol starts using this attack in Phase 3.

Stagger Values
Description: Hegemol's stagger is based on his health, and Hegemol is staggered every time his Phase health is depleted to 0.

When staggered, he sits down and leans on his mace.

Dialogue

During the fight
Dream Nailed Randomly:
  • I’ll fight to defend the City!
  • It bears the crest, but is it worthy?
  • How to protect against a plague of mind...?
Dream Nailed in Godhome Randomly:
  • Show me what you're made of!
  • Keep fighting! A warrior never gives up!
  • Prove to me you're a champion!
  • Is that all you've got, little one?
Defeats
First defeat Ogrim... After all that has happened, do you hope still...?
Second defeat Isma... Are your vines now as tough as I recall them? Please, take care of yourself and Ogrim...
Third defeat Dryya... Protect our Queen and yourself at all costs! I don’t know how much longer I can continue here...
Fourth defeat Ze’mer... Don’t let your sorrow get the better of you, not even after your great loss!
Fifth defeat and subsequent defeats Oh, so I meet you once again, little one. My fortitude is wearing out now, but we and the King trained your endurance wel... Do what you must, please. Anything to save Hallownest.
After the Champion's Call
First defeat First dialogue

I would never have guessed such a small bug could possess strength as mighty as yours. You’ve surprised me, little one.
When I first saw you, I thought I’d have been able to strike you down with my mighty mace like a nailsmith strikes the anvil, but I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised.

This reminds me of a time I was training with Isma, ready to charge through the foliage she had created... She summoned a vine that tripped me over and has never let me forget since.

Second dialogue
I do admire your skill with that nail. I could never be so delicate as to handle one without breaking it.
Were I to wield a similar weapon, it would be Ze’mer’s. What the smiths of her home must be capable of to produce such a massive, yet refined blade...
Of course, nothing suits me better than my trusty mace. No need to be precise if your position doesn’t call for it, and there’s nothing quite like the joy of smashing your way through everything in your path.

If I weren’t a Knight, perhaps I would make a good mining golem, oho!

Exhausted dialogue

I suppose you will be seeing my mace on the battlefield again soon.

Dream Nailed
My jest returns only silence... You are a strange one, little knight...

Second defeat First dialogue

I’m thoroughly impressed: you’ve withstood my full force and lived to tell the tale twice now. I’m often called .”Mighty.” Hegemol, but perhaps I ought to pass that title to you.
…Ho, I only jest. Titles are reserved for us Knights, though I’m sure you are more than capable of joining our ranks. Train with us a bit longer, and the King will no doubt grant you the privilege.
…Of course, of course, I know. You’ve another role to fulfil. But we’ve a while before you are ready to take on that task. I’d love to fight alongside you, some day, in true combat.

I believe the Battle of the Blackwyrm and Steelcrest Siege would have both been finished far sooner had you been there with us!

Second dialogue
If you ever grow larger, you ought to try out a heftier weapon, such as a mace or one akin to Ze’mer’s choice. It may not be what you’re used to, but it is capable of delivering far more powerful blows than a nail. Er- don’t tell Dryya I said that.
Oh, and Ogrim’s weapon of choice… It sure has knocked more than one unconscious before even hitting! Ho ho! Isma is quite the thorned vine in the battlefield, but her talents truly bloom when helping others.

Us Knights have quite the unusual fighting methods, don’t we? Although I ought to watch what I say before I start us squabbling, ho ho!

Exhausted

You are joyous to fight, little knight.

Dream Nailed
A strange set of warriors we would be, were it to join our ranks…

Third and subsequent defeats First dialogue

Truly, I admire your strength and grace. Many times now have we met in battle, and many times have I lost thoroughly.

You hardly even show any sense of fatigue! An impressive feat of resilience and determination that all aspire to achieve, yet few ever obtain.

Exhausted dialogue

I shall surely be seeing more of you, little one!

Dream Nailed
What the King must have done to produce its resilient nature…

Special (challenge) defeats Boon of Hallownest defeat dialogue

Those curious spells! The King really taught you well to be capable of such casts, summoning effective weapons from mere soul.
You almost made me question my coldness towards spell crafting; yet I stick to my ways, I much prefer the simplicity of a nice, hefty swing to punish my enemies.

While impressive, be cautious of their usage! You've seen the effects in a safe environment so avoid exposing possible bystanders to them.

Location

To reach Mighty Hegemol, White Defender has to be defeated first.

After putting the City Crest into the statue in front of the city gates in the Fungal Wastes, the city gates open and the statue starts having dream particles appear around it. Dream Nail it to enter the arena.

Trivia

  • The dream in which Mighty Hegemol is fought, entered by using the Dream Nail on the city statue, appears to depict the City of Tears in its prime.
  • Using the Dream Nail on the False Knight's armour in the Forgotten Crossroads makes the following line of dialogue show up:
The crest... The city's gates...
This line was added to give players a clue to where Hegemol's boss fight was accessed, since compared to the other knights, his access point is harder to find.
