Mod:Pale Court/Abyssal Bloom
Abyssal Bloom is a Charm from the Pale Court Mod. It gives various effects at different stages based on the amount of remaining Masks the Knight has. This effect only counts regular masks lost, not Lifeblood masks (except Joni's Blessing, see #Charm Synergies below).
- Stage 1: When the Knight is above half Masks (rounded up), Nail and Nail Art damage is increased by 6.25% per missing Mask.[Note 1]
- Stage 2: When the Knight is at or below half health (rounded up), movement speed is increased by 10%, and Dash cooldown is decreased by 10%.[Note 2]
- Stage 3: When the Knight is on their last Mask, the damage bonus is increased to +9.375% per missing Mask, movement speed bonus is increased to +20%, Dash cooldown bonus is increased to -20%, and the Nail gets a flat 75% range increase.
- The range increase overrides the length increase of regular nail attacks from Longnail or Mark of Pride, but does not affect the length of Nail Arts.
Usefulness
Abyssal Bloom is an incredibly powerful risk-reward Charm, encouraging entering battles with decreased health in order to deal higher damage. The risk is slightly offset by the increased movement and dash speed at Stage 2, though the sudden increase of speed may be hard to adjust to. Therefore it's recommended to remain below half health when possible.
Due to the high Notch cost, there is a reduced selection of Charms that can be used in the same loadout.
- Charms from the Charm Synergies section are powerful, as they cost relatively few Notches and their effects are greatly increased.
- While Joni's Blessing automatically applies Stage 3 without needing to be at 1 Mask, the fact that Lifeblood Masks cannot be healed adds a different risk.
- If not using Joni's Blessing, survivability Charms are recommended, such as Quick Focus, Carefree Melody, and Fragile/Unbreakable Heart.
- Charms that increase the speed of attacks also make the most of Abyssal Bloom's buffs. These include Quick Slash, Nailmaster's Glory, and Mark of Purity.
How to Acquire
Reward from completing the platforming challenge in the Abyssal Temple above the Void Tendrils imprint room. This platforming challenge uses Spiked Shade Gates that harm the Knight when they touch them. The challenge requires the Knight to have the Dashmaster charm equiped, since some of the ever mentioned Spiked Shade Gates are placed horizontally, requiring a downwards dash with the Shade Cloak to bypass. It is recommended to bring charms that help with restoring health when attempting this challenge. Hiveblood and Grubsong + Grubberfly's Elegy + Deep Focus are good options here.
Charm Synergies
Permanently allows the Knight to benefit from the effects of both stage 2 and stage 3. Regular masks replaced by Lifeblood Masks count towards the Masks Lost calculation.
Increases base Nail damage to +7.5%/mask, and the Stage 3 damage to +11.25%/mask. This bonus is doubled when calculating the damage of Shade Cloak Dash.[Note 3]
Doubles the impact damage of the hatchlings, including increased damage from other charms.[Note 4] |

Trivia
- While Abyssal Bloom is equipped, the Knight does not enter the "exhausted" animation when standing still with 1 Mask remaining.
- Abyssal Bloom removes the 1-Mask beam attack from the Fury of the Fallen + Grubberfly's Elegy Synergy.
- When Defender's Crest/King's Honour is equipped, Fury of the Fallen and Abyssal Bloom do not affect the damage from Glowing Womb. This is possibly due to a bug.
Notes
- ↑ Stacks multiplicitavely with Fragile Strength/Unbreakable Strength's and Mark of Purity, and additively with Fury of the Fallen. This makes the damage calculation as follows: Nail damage * (1 + Fragile/Unbreakable Strength - Mark of Purity) * (1 + Abyssal Bloom + Fury of the Fallen)
- ↑ This bonus is applied to the movement speed after Sprintmaster's and Dashmaster's bonuses, making the formula as follows: Base speed * (1 + Sprintmaster + Sprintmaster/Dashmaster) * (1 + Abyssal Bloom)
- ↑ The Sharp Shadow damage formula is therefore as follows: ((Nail damage + (2 * Abyssal Bloom * Nail damage)) * 150%
- ↑ This also doubles the damage of the stronger hatchlings from Fury of the Fallen
