Hunter's Journal
Press INVENTORY to open the Menu, then navigate to the 'Journal' pane. Defeat enemies to add new entries to the journal and decipher the Hunter's notes.

The Hunter's Journal is a compendium of every enemy found in Hollow Knight. Most new entries are added to the Journal after defeating new enemies.

Use

Defeating a specified number of each enemy unlocks additional notes from the Hunter about that enemy, as well as bits of lore, techniques for fighting said enemy, or even information about the Hunter himself. A few entries can only be obtained by inspecting a specific object or as a reward for completing a challenge.

After completing most entries, the Hunter's Mark can be acquired.

How to acquire

Dropped on the ground by the Hunter in Greenpath after listening to him for the first time. When it is inspected, the Journal can be found as a pane in the Menu.

Hunter's Journal entries

A total of 168 entries can be acquired for the Hunter's Journal. However, four of these entries, the Hunter's Mark, Seal of Binding, Void Idol, and Weathered Mask, do not increase the total entry count. This means that the Journal only counts 164 entries.

There are 146 entries which are required for the Keen Hunter achievement. See the entry list below for details on which entries are not required.

In order to see the number of creatures encountered and the total number required to complete the journal, the World Sense ability must be acquired.

Trivia

• The Hunter's Journal was first revealed in a Kickstarter update:

"What's everyone's favourite part of any game? That's right - filling out a bestiary by killing bad guys! Then reading about them! At least, it's one of our favourite bits, so we couldn't resist adding the feature to Hollow Knight.

If you explore the Greenpath carefully, you'll come across the mysterious Hunter in his lair.

He'll give you his Hunter's Journal, and charge you with the task of defeating enemies, adding their details to the journal. And so your hunt begins!

Defeating enemies will now add entries to the journal which you can check out whenever you have a quiet moment.

As you defeat more of a certain enemy, you'll start to decipher the Hunter's notes and gain some insight into the creatures of Hallownest as well as the Hunter himself.

We've had a lot of fun building the Hunter's Journal, and we hope you'll enjoy seeking out rare beasts and filling out entries. If you manage to complete the journal entirely, head back to see the Hunter so you can receive your well-deserved reward..."
