Baldur
Rolls into a ball and propels itself at intruders who wander into its territory. Aggressive even when newly born. Younger hunters delight in catching these creatures and rolling them around for sport. I encourage you to indulge yourself if the fancy strikes you. |
Baldurs are enemies in Hollow Knight. They are small, crawling creatures who defend themselves by rolling into a ball.[1] A stronger variant called the Sharp Baldur is bred to fight in the Colosseum of Fools.[2]
Behaviour and Tactics
Rolls into a ball and propels itself towards the Knight, bouncing off walls and other Baldurs. After a short time, it uncurls and reorients itself to face the Knight again.
Jump over it when it gets close and strike from above while doing so. Alternatively, using the Quick Slash or Heavy Blow Charm allow the Knight to continually knock it back before it can make contact.

Trivia
- In a Kickstarter update, it was referred to as "Scrundling Propede (infant)":
- "Although the shells of these youngsters are not thick enough to protect them from predators, they are still able to defend themselves if pressed."[3]
- Prior to the Voidheart Edition, the Hunter's Journal image for the Baldur showed them with white eyes, even though their eyes during gameplay are orange.
